Twenty-five years ago, a series of signatures on a rain-dappled document jolted Canada into a new era.

To some, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Pierre Trudeau's greatest political legacy, was a supremely undemocratic development, weakening governments and handing judges the power to decide some of the most pressing social issues.

Чуть ли не самое главное завоевание (как это здесь почему-то преподносят) это свобода сексмузчинств и прочих у кого с сексом не так как у других.

Chrétien stunned by gay marriage rulings

OTTAWA (CP) – Jean Chrétien helped engineer the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, but he wasn't prepared for the way the courts used it to overturn something he'd always taken for granted – the definition of marriage as a union of man and woman.

In an interview approaching the 25th anniversary of the Charter, Chrétien said he was taken aback by a series of judicial rulings in 2003 – his last full year as Liberal prime minister – that put a stamp of legal approval on gay and lesbian weddings.

"I was caught by surprise. At the time I was 69 years old, you know, and this way of living was not very (much) a part of my culture."

Другой аспект жизни Канады который появился посли принятия данного свода законов это свобода от рассовых и религиозных предрассудков. Под этим предлогом сюда завезли миллионы.
Теперь мучаются вопросом, а что с ними делать.

A survey published last week in L'Actualité magazine detailed the "Hérouxville syndrome" in an analysis of Quebecers' attitudes toward immigrants.

The poll found that 80 per cent of people favour the assimilation – not mere integration – of immigrant communities, and that 55 per cent believe there should be no accommodations of any sort for the religious beliefs of minorities.
