Я уже не говорю про бабушек с дедушками, которых дубинками.
What you are saying above would make sense if the police were to break into random homes, and beat up senior citizens.
Those babuskas chose to "stand their ground" when confronted with police at a "demonstration". Are you saying that the police should have disobeyed their orders, and run away upon seeing a babushka in front of them?
Me, you ought to stop using electricity. If a babushka sticks scissors into an electrical outlet, she would be electrocuted. And that wouldn't be right.
Т.е. "нормальная страна" - это та страна, где мент может просто так, без смысла, просто для развлечения, расставив ноги жертве, запросто вмазать человеку так, что он просто падает на землю, при этом снимая это на видеокамеру, и требуя после удара: "А теперь скажи, что ты любишь ОМОН". И дикий рогот с призывными утробными звуками от Кинг-Конга. После этого человек умирает, но кого это волнует, правда Олег? А если бы он не умер, то ты бы сказал - пошутили ребята? Он таки умер.
I am not sure why you are blaming the police (instead of blaming the murderer). It is like blaming teachers of Russian language and literature, after reading a book about Chikatilo (he used to be a teacher of Russian language and literature).
I think of police officers as my agents. When they have to think twice before doing their job of protecting the public, the only people who suffer are the public. I would think that BOTH the police, and the criminals would welcome the police having an incentive to do less.
In Canada, the law is not being enforced. If someone gets caught and their crime is not a violent crime, they are basically not going to be punished. For example, I remember watching an episode of the show "Masterminds." One man was convicted of stealing tens of millions dollars worth of goods. He got something like 15 months. Violent criminals also get a slap on the wrist - something like two to five years in jail for murder. Keep in mind that the vast majority get parole after serving 40% of their sentence.
To make things worse, the police are being forced to "walk on eggshells." There are too many outrageous examples to list. Just spend a year or two reading the local newspapers - it ought to make your blood boil. Of course, this must be great for the police - they have an excuse to not do anything, and still retire at the age of 45.
I don't like living in a lawless country where the laws are not being enforced.
А вообще, че ты здесь сидишь? Украина тоже по-моему "нормальной" ((ц) Олег) страной становится.
One possible future scenario is that Canada will keep getting worse, while the standard of living will improve in Eastern Europe. In this case, I can see myself leaving Canada in 30 years or so.
