....Fifteen people have been arrested in a major casino scam that netted more than $2 million from cheating at baccarat in Ontario.

Among those arrested were several employees of Casino Rama near Orillia.

It's alleged that casino dealers were recruited to predetermine the outcome of card games, but police wouldn't reveal details of how the scam was carried out.

Investigators are calling the sting the largest in memory, said OPP spokesperson Sgt. Bob Paterson.

Baccarat, popular with many gamblers, is a hard game to play and one that's difficult to cheat in, said Paul Burns, vice-president of the Canadian Gaming Association.

Burns said it's troubling, albeit not surprising, that inside help would be enlisted.

"Employees, by and large, that work in the gaming industry are honest folks. But ultimately you need checks and balances in the casinos and that's why there's surveillance. That's why dealers deal cards but they don't count money and they don't count chips," he said...

Lottery Fraud Charges for Mississauga Man

TORONTO/AM640 TORONTO - A Mississauga man has been charged with two counts of fraud and one count of theft over five thousand dollars in connection with an alleged multi-million dollar insider lottery win. At a press conference Wednesday morning, O-P-P announced the charges against sixty-year old Hafiz Zulqarnain Malik. He used to run a small convenience store in Toronto, but it has been closed for sometime. A lengthy investigation revealed a winning lotto 6/49 ticket was bought by a group of four people in June of 2004 and the $5.7 million dollar prize was claimed by Malik in January of 2005. Assets valued at five million dollars have been seized from his home. Malik is to appear in a Toronto court today.

B.C.'s solicitor general has called an emergency meeting with the head of the B.C. Lottery Corp. after a CBC News investigation revealed suspected money laundering at the province's casinos is under-reported.

The documents from the provincial government's Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch obtained by the CBC outline thousands of incidents of suspicious activities and large cash transactions in casinos, including allegations of loan sharking, money laundering and fraud.

The documents also show charges were laid in less than one per cent of the incidents.

Lawyers for the CBC spent four years trying to obtain the documents through freedom of information requests, but two big casino companies and the provincial branch overseeing gaming tried to stop them from being handed over.

CBC News recently obtained 3,000 pages outlining suspicious transaction reports, or STRs, and large cash transaction reports, or LCTRs, with some details blacked out.

The numbers were part of a historical analysis of 13 years of data — from July 1, 1995 to June 30, 2008 — performed by Deloitte & Touche to help the OLG understand and crack down on insider fraud. The $750,000 study took five months, and is believed to be the largest analysis of its kind published by a lottery corporation in the world.

Вот и верь после всего этого людям...
Вообще поражаюсь, как это умудряются делать, после того, как однажды прочла статью, как они мурыжат победителей всякими разными нехорошими вопросами, чуть ли не в открытую подозревая их в чём попало.
А относительно того, что это крупнейшее в мире расследование в этой сфере. Хм...
Они бы еще 13 лет чухались...

А я вот, помню, давным давно в России выиграл 24 000 рублей в лотерею, чему был несказанно рад.

Но выдали мне только 24 рубля.

Мама выиграла в Русское Лото 132 рубля. Выдали 85р.80 копеек (35% подоходный налог с выигрыша). 20р. стоил билет и 40 р. потратила на автобус чтоб оный выигрыш получить. Приехала домой - купила себе мороженку. Больше не играет.
