The Company

The Position
Essential functions of the position include:
• Leading the design, development, and delivery of safety and non-safety related software used for the remote control of fuel handling systems and specialized tooling in the nuclear industry.
• Functional leadership of more than twenty software engineers, configuration management and software packaging, software engineering tools, technical documentation, and product verification and validation activities.
• Implementing process simplification and streamlined practices from the industry.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Definition of software engineering processes in the above areas with operational controls.
• Resource and activity planning to accomplish operational objectives.
• Leading process change through goal setting, process enhancement, and technology introduction.
• Lead the development and implementation of a roadmap to achieve world-class software product development and product deployment.
The Position (cont’d)
This position requires frequent interaction with external customers, subcontractors, and cross-functional internal teams. The Software Leader will establish a departmental plan including a process development approach, success criteria, risks, activities, deliverables, resource requirements and budget.

• Motivating a diverse group of staff, and managing through influencing
• Assure compliance and adherence to processes and policy requirements
• Proactively identify project risk, analyze solutions, and take decisive action to resolve issues and communicate these to the business
• Recruitment, staff development, and retention for department
• Coaching of team leaders and individual contributors to achieve best in class results
The Candidate
The successful candidate should possess the following experience, qualifications & personal characteristics:
• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Computer Science, Computer or Software Engineering
• Licensed by PEO
• Minimum 10 years experience in software development, with minimum 5 years experience in a managerial role
• Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale software development team
• Demonstrated ability in process design and implementation, including cycle time improvement.
• Demonstrated software development experience in one or more of the following areas: configuration management, software packaging and deployment, software testing, and technical documentation processes
• Resource and financial management experience
In addition, the following qualifications are desired:
• Experience in Assembler programming, PLC programming, Human Machine Interface applications, and software simulators
• Experience in process automation, including software test automation
The most important aspect of the position, in addition to being technically qualified, is people management. The number of staff to manage encompasses 25 direct reports and, with subcontractors, can go up to 40 staff to manage.
The successful candidate must be willing to relocate to the Peterborough area. The client will provide a relocation package.
