A Markham man is among three fined after being found guilty of angling in a fish sanctuary.
Aneal Swaratsingh, 39, of Markham, Shawaab Nurmahamad, 39, of Toronto, and Waheed Ali, 39, of Scarborough, pleaded guilty to fishing in a fish sanctuary on the Talbot River north of Beaverton. Each was fined $3,000.
The river is a key spawning ground for Lake Simcoe's walleye population.
On the night of April 18, at the height of the Talbot River’s walleye spawning run, Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers saw a man casting a net several times into the river while two other men acted as lookouts The officers arrested the men and seized their net.
