I remember some science fiction where one could travel instantaneously by being destroyed in one location and having one's atoms reassembled in another location. Even though the new person created at location B has your memories, YOU die when get into this machine at point A. So I don't think having a kid is anything like immortality.

In addition to losing seven years worth of salary, one would be earning less during one's remaining years at work. It might actually still be worth it, as a seven year vacation sounds spectacular. However, it sounds like the kids would ruin the whole thing.

This is THE Creepiest and The most Offensive statement I have ever read on this forum. You making decisions about how other people are to spend their lives. I guess the Soviet leaders were also thinking the same thing - "какие у них будут дома и доходы это не важно, as long as there is equality and everyone gets to zhit' druzhno".
Money is not important, but what IS important is to allow your kid to have a normal childhood (which doesn't include working for a minimum wage, as if she was born in a third world country). Happiness is important, and many people are not going to be happy when they have to be around a person who forced them to work as a kid.
