а какой код Торонто и скокозначные номера?

There are two codes for Toronto. One of them is 416. I don't remember what the other one is.

905 can be anywhere now. Mississauga has lots of 905 numbers. Toronto, too.

В связи с появлением IP телефонии код региона уже ничего не значит.
416 можно иметь далеко за Миссисагой. Чтобы не платить за межгород когда вам звонят многочисленные родственники из Торонто.
Ну нам это не грозит.
Так же в связи с переводом телефонных центров поддержки в Индию, набрав 416 при звонке в IBM вы попадаете не в Торонто, а в Индию. Ну там 800, но все равно, такая возможность и реклама об этом есть.

Yep, but IP is quite expensive in Canada. My friend pays 9 USD a month for having his NC hone in England, Another 200 USD per year for his DC number in Ukraine. Plus, you need a good internet line - which is quite a cost in Canada

А то на карте пишут одно, а на деле - 60 минут, как в аптеке.

Cards bought in the internet have an auto-refill option, so they are probably as services you're using. Just when there are many of them, you can optimize based on geography of your calls. I am calling to Germany, e.g. - so i need both cheap rate to russia and there

Карточки - штука ненадежная. То они заканчиваются в самый неподходящий момент, то обещают час, а потом на 30й минуте говорят - "все, время вышло", то - после первого звонка резко обрезают минуты второго, то - совсем неиспользованные карточки просто не работают - компания их выпустила, продала, а потом померла (в одной из серий Сопранос об этом было подробно).

so why bother? I just call and get everything included in my Bell bill in the end of the month... I don't have to buy any cards - neither online, nor in stores. All I need to do is pick up the phone and call whomever I am calling. No contracts, no obligations.

Depending how much are you paying. My rate 0.8 cent for Canada and Moscow, 1.1 for Peter, 1.5 - USA, 4 - for rest russia.... Most of my friends are outside of Toronto, and these are old, good friends so, I used to talk more than hour for each call.
